Professional Photo Editing
Designed alongside photographers, The Photo Lab provided photo editing services to photographers and businesses. With a keen eye for quality and dedication to individual style we changed the way photographers work.
ABOUT THE PHOTO LAB
Initially developed over the course of several years after working in a local lab, the idea for The Photo Lab came together with a focus on photo editing for photographers and businesses solely seeking quality and accuracy.
Working closely with local photographers our team developed the systems, website, and editing workflows that would define the company.
By reducing or eliminating a large portion of editing meant our clients could spend more time on their business and allow them to take on additional work.
Many things were learned on the project and the startup environment, most of which would be put to use when developing Zapdrives a few years later.

THE BRAND
Created over the course of several months with much research, The Photo Lab brand wasn’t easy to create. Names were debated for quite some time while current orders ran through the ‘Alumedia’ name, and the logo took even more time after throwing several design ideas around.
The brand identity was developed by a local designer which our marketing team worked with regularly to hone in on the specific design. The color scheme was chosen and developed by our marketing team along with the branding guidelines and brand assets.
THE WEBSITE
Designed and developed internally, The Photo Lab website was custom built on WordPress specifically for the unique services needed, and with specific attention to the desired customer experience.
Many challenges were presented and overcome by the team including how to deal with a large quantity of files—sometimes upwards of 40MB each. As an eCommerce platform, having proper file upload and storage capacity online posed a huge challenge initially when potentially dealing with several Gigabytes of files per order. We even had to build in ways to recover files in the middle of an upload if a customer got disconnected.
Initially, when the site was in development, we worked with local photographers via tools like DropBox while we implemented a more permanent solution online.
Today, the website is intuitive and easy to use for customers. File upload happens seamlessly online through the platform and charges accordingly depending on how many files are uploaded and the editing style chosen.
The website includes customer accounts, which can be designated as regular user or one of several types of partner accounts.
